The purpose of this Blog is to attempt to highlight the unbalanced reporting on current issues in the media.
As a starting point the media is screaming about the Israeli attack on the UN outpost. Koffi Anan claims it appears "deliberate". None of the vast majority of the media even attempt to question this claim. What would the motive be for Israel to deliberately target the UN. The UN has been there for over 20 years and never targeted. Why would Israel willingly risk alienating whatever few friends in the world that she has by deliberately targetting the UN at a time when public opinion is so important? There is certainly no strategic, moral, technical or public opinion advantage.
On the contrary why has the world media been silent on the Hizbollah attacks on the UN in the last week - one of which resulted in Israeli soldiers airlifting a UN soldier to an Israeli hospital to save his life.
The UN press release itself said:
"One unarmed UN military observer, a member of the Observer Group Lebanon (OGL), was seriously wounded by small arms fire in the patrol base in the Marun Al Ras area yesterday afternoon. According to preliminary reports, the fire originated from the Hezbollah side during an exchange with the IDF. He was evacuated by the UN to the Israeli side, from where he was taken by an IDF ambulance helicopter to a hospital in Haifa. He was operated on, and his condition is now reported as stable."
Where was Kofi Anan and teh worlds condemnation of this attack? Clearly a double standard exists.
